One day, I was converting to dotDOC from PDF to edit an IDD for laying out in Illustrator, and a funny thing happened. The conversion process changed the layout; some might say, garbled it. But to my mind, it was an autocatalytic process, a self-designing action, instrumented across the machine/biology barrier and harnessing both organic and inorganic means for its self-creation. By the way, the content of the original file was cybernetics.

Taking the resulting translation, I animated it by importing back to Acrobat via PDF and capturing a step-through in QuickTime via SnapZ Pro. I offer the result here. [1'23" quicktime] —Paul Pangaro, 2006 August 4
